ANNOUNCEMENT: Editorial Policy on the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in Jurnal Keperawatan Suaka Insan (JKSI)

2026-04-30

To: All Authors, Reviewers, and Editors of Jurnal Keperawatan Suaka Insan (JKSI)

As the landscape of scientific publishing evolves, Jurnal Keperawatan Suaka Insan (JKSI) remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct in nursing research. In alignment with global publishing standards, JKSI is implementing the following policy regarding the use of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the manuscript preparation and evaluation process.

1. Declaration Requirement for Authors

Authors must declare the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies ("AI Tools") during the manuscript preparation process upon submission. While JKSI recognizes that AI can enhance efficiency and provide support in synthesizing literature or improving language readability, these tools must never replace human critical thinking, expertise, and professional judgment.

Key Responsibilities for Authors:

  • Accountability: Authors are fully responsible and accountable for the accuracy, comprehensiveness, and integrity of the final work. This includes verifying all facts and ensuring that AI-generated references are not fabricated or incorrect.

  • Originality: Authors must ensure the manuscript reflects their authentic analysis, interpretation, and insights.

  • Authorship: AI Tools must not be listed as an author or co-author. Authorship implies legal and ethical responsibilities that can only be attributed to humans.

  • Privacy and Rights: Authors must ensure that the use of AI tools does not violate data privacy, intellectual property, or other legal rights.

2. Mandatory Disclosure Statement

If AI Tools have been used (excluding basic tools for grammar and spelling checks), authors must include a statement in a new section titled "Declaration of Generative AI and AI-assisted Technologies in the Manuscript Preparation Process" located before the References list.

Template for Disclosure:

"During the preparation of this work the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the published article."

Note: If no AI tools were used for content generation or analysis, no statement is required.

3. Policy on Images and Visual Media

The integrity of scientific images is paramount. JKSI does not permit the use of AI to create or alter images in submitted manuscripts, with the following exceptions and rules:

  • Prohibited Actions: It is unacceptable to use AI to enhance, obscure, move, remove, or introduce specific features within an image.

  • Acceptable Adjustments: Standard adjustments to brightness, contrast, or color balance are permitted as long as they do not eliminate information present in the original.

  • Research Design Exception: If AI-generated imagery is a fundamental part of the research design or methodology, authors must provide a comprehensive description of the tool (version, model, manufacturer) and a clear explanation of how it was used.

4. Confidentiality in Peer Review

To protect the confidentiality of research and the rights of authors, reviewers and editors are strictly prohibited from using generative AI or AI-assisted technologies (such as ChatGPT) to evaluate manuscripts or generate peer review reports. Uploading manuscript content into AI tools constitutes a breach of confidentiality.

5. Ethical Compliance

Any use of AI that results in the fabrication of data, falsification of results, or plagiarism will be treated as scientific ethical abuse and will be managed according to the JKSI and COPE ethical guidelines.

We thank our contributors for their continued dedication to the ethical advancement of nursing science.

Best regards,

Editor-in-Chief
